  • I'm not 100% sure about that but I think so, my dad used to breed rabbits. I used to breed pet rats and I'm sort of sure that their both (rats and rabbits) alot the same when it comes down to breeding. With rabbits and rats alike, "Never" touch the babies without handling the mother first, you need to get the scent of the mother on your hands first, if you don't, the mother will see you as a threat and will kill the young afterwoulds. As apose to you holding her first, when you do hold the young after you handle her, she then only smells herself, in saying so, you've covered your scent and then doesn't see you as any sort of threat. Once they are 2 months old or just over, you can then remove them from their mother. I hope this helps you in some sort of way, you could also check it up on the net under "breeding rabbits" just to be very sure if you really wanted to.
  • You need to separate the rabbits immediately so they don't breed too early. Never keep two rabbits together as when they are sexually mature they may fight and hurt each other as rabbits need to have their own space. Plus if they are always together there is no way you can prepare for the litter. Keep them separate until you want to breed them. The buck must be at least 6 months of age to be old enough to safely breed another rabbit, even though he is capable of doing it at a younger age. Then when you are ready to breed, check her vent area for color. If it is link or just barely red, she's not ready yet. When it gets purplish, then she's ready and in heat. Take HER to his cage, never the other way around (he has to feel like he is boss or master of his domain) and let them go at it for 5-10 minutes. If they breed, great! After those few minutes, remove her and place her back in her cage. IF there was a mating, you can repeat in 8-12 hours to make sure. Mark you r calendar for 28 days. That is the day that she will probably pull fur so you will need to put in her nest box on that day. Then she may give birth on the 31st day.
  • you need to remove the male, because he may eat the babies..
