  • Read the packet - it would depend on the strength of the tablets.
  • 6 in 24 hrs
  • It completely depends on the strength of the tablets. It's safe for adults to take two 200mg tablets in one go if they haven't been told otherwise by their doctor, but if you were taking 400mg or even 800mg, you should usually only take one. Generally you can take 400mg every four to six hours. If you're taking 200mg tablets, then you still shouldn't exceed 1200mg in 24 hours, but you can take them more often. Under medical supervision, it can be safe to take 3200mg in 24 hours, but of course you'd never take that much in one go. And yes, the packets do tend to err on the side of caution I suppose. The problem is that everybody reacts differently to drugs, which means it's easy to overdose on them. 1200mg is the usual maximum dosage in 24 hours for adults, but depending on their metabolism, 1200mg might actaully be an overdose to their system, and would make them sick. Thus, over 1200mg and you're really running the risk of overdose. The side effects of ibuprofen can be quite bad anyway, so imagine what it'd be like if you took more than you should?!
  • The fact is that doctors can prescribe twice what it says on the package--but they'll do so for a limited time. I knew a man who somehow managed to reach 60 years of age without ever realizing that when you get up in years, you have to put up with some aches and pains. He was a small man, and if a couple Tylenols didn't work, half an hour later he'd take a couple more, and half an hour later a couple more... to make a long story short, he needed a kidney transplant because he destroyed both of his by not following package directions.
  • I am only 16 and my doctor gave me 800mg pills to take. He said only take one every 6 hours, but I have taken probably 5 a day, and I have not been affected in any way.
