I always go back to the Bible verses Matthew 24:33-44, which basically states that "no man knoweth the hour"! At different places it says we will see signs and know the time is near, but none of us will know when.
People have been trying for years and years to figure it out, but I don't think it is possible. I just think we can have "our houses in order" and be ready. And, as always, this is my OPINION, from what I have studied over the years.

This will probably come back to bite me on the bum, so I am posting a health warning with it - I cannot tell the future!
It's just over five years away. This will give time for the next US administration to either clear America's name or to move further down the road they're presently on. I reckon the latter will happen and 2012 will see USA engaged in a conflict throughout the Middle East. Afghanistan will still be dragging on, sapping money and men for US and UK. Iraq will have been sorted, mostly, through the brutal full re-occupation of US troops, and martial law will be the norm. Iran's pushing to perfect nuclear technology will be almost there, and US will have invaded Syria, allowing Israel to admit its nuclear deterrent, which is now being used as a threat to keep Iran from pre-emptive action. Saudi and its neighbours have finally realised that the danger is to the entire area and has pledged support to the Muslim side, convincing Pakistan to bring its nuclear arsenal to bear. India is staying extremely neutral. Europe is also neutral in the affair, having decline to help America, and is watching from the sidelines with its new trading partners of Russia and China. The schism happened in 2010 when US unilaterally imposed sanctions despite UN warnings. The UN was disbanded after that and UK ceceded from Europe and became a sub-state of America. The population of UK halfed overnight as millions fled to mainland Europe in search of freedom. US's isolationist tactics of the 20th century have now come back to haunt it as its own oil reserves have dried up and the trade in petro dollars has ceased. Of course I hope this wont happen, and I see many ways to avoid it, but I think it will happen neverthelass - even if it takes a few more years than that to come to pass.

Well, the 21st December will come, some people will start going a bit loco, some will be praying, some will be celebrating (while the rest of us are getting on with our Christmas shopping) - and then it will pass.
The 22nd, then the 23rd and 24th December will come, and those who had tried to push the doomsday predictions will start backtracking, making excuses, and saying it will come soon.
The same as has happened time after time in the past.

Many issues, whether religious or otherwise, have been predicted over the centuries. The Biblical text does not stipulate a precise date, yet, read carefully - it does state the world will come to an end, as we know it, between 2008 - 2013. The Bible does not state the world will come to an end, but, it does state the world will come to an end as we know it today. The Book of Revelations tells us to be ready at all times as do other prophetic books. With the constant wars (all Biblically clarified) and notions towards a peaceful world - it can easily be stated, wars will be fought between nations and amongst themselves. Are the Mayans correct? Perhaps they are even though they do predict a precise end date per their calendar year. As many matters involving mankind have changed over the years and especially with a world vastly congested with people, simply look at the devastation occurring around you, listen to the governmental leadership and at no time in history has the world been so confused as it is today. This confusion cannot continue under the methodology used to function normally on this planet to date. I 'do not' believe the world will come to a bitter end in 2013 but their will be much turmoil. We are headed towards an international division between all nations and this divisiveness cannot go on forever. Why are we suddenly seeing such graphic changes meteorologically, why are nations getting flooded with mass exodus of folk running for higher ground, why is our world no longer as safe as it once was and why is it necessary to spend billions of dollars internationally with an aim for peaceful solutions. Surely the Bible states many things but why are almost all wars fought religiously or politically......there has to be an end to this fighting eventually. Who will mitigate this end - GOD when He so feels it is tiring to watch this unorthodox means by which mankind attempts to rule this planet. By 2013 many people will perish and rulers will be extradited. People cannot rely on governments to aid endlessly. The world has been at war for so long - eventually an end to this mess must happen. As heaven and earth are one place within the Catholic belief - so the believers will remain on this earth while the non-believers may be taught the most bitter lesson of God's mercy. It is said, "The world will roll up like a scroll........ and there will be much bloodshed." Believe today, tomorrow and everyday and you will not have to fear the end of times as we gear towards the Mayan belief or calendar. You will be safe in the Hands of God.

My guess is that this is no more accurate than any other doomsday prediction. (Is anyone else getting tired of the doomsday predictions?) I don't think I'm going to get my affairs in order and prepare for the End of All because some people interpret the ancient Mayan calendars and beliefs to mean that the Mayans believed the world would end in 2012. The Mayans developed a calander system years upon years ago. Supposively, historical evidence shows that every year they've predicted something incredible to happen... the unexpected occurred. The Mayan calander, however, ends at December 21th of 2012.. Whether it was purposeful or just when they decided their hands were too tired is unknown... I guess it's all part of the fun of the unknown and unexpected. :D

People are predicting that because they Myan calender doesn't continue past that date, that it's a doomsday prediction. However the Myan calender does continue past that day and on into 2013, 12/21/2012 is just where they stopped calculating. It's the equivelent of saying the world will end on newyears.
