Why is the Pope usually reffered to as Holy? The Bible clearly states in the book of Romans that all man is a sinner and fall short on the glory of God....Since Pope is just like one of us (man), why is he exalted as if he is all pure and holy?

There is nothing wrong with referring to the Pope as holy, if indeed he is living up to the standards that God has set for humans regarding holiness in his Word, the Bible.
Remember that the Apostle Peter said
"In accord with the Holy One who called you, do you also become holy yourselves in all your conduct, because it is written: ‘You must be holy, because I am holy.’” 1 PETER 1:15, 16.

The Hebrew and Greek words rendered “holy” in the Bible convey the idea of being ‘bright, new, fresh, untarnished, and clean.’

Uttering the words Peter would later quote, Jehovah repeatedly exhorted: “You should prove yourselves holy, because I Jehovah your God am holy.” Leviticus 11:44; 19:2; 20:26.

‘Proving themselves holy’ meant neither perfection nor an assumed air of false piety; it meant obedience to an extensive law code given to Israel through Moses. (Exodus 19:5, 6) Unlike any other national law, God’s Law could be described as “holy and righteous and good.” Romans 7:12.
Because it was ‘holy, righteous, and good,’ the Mosaic Law had a powerful impact upon the personal lives of the Jews.

Today, conformity to God’s standard of holiness is the way to enjoy life to the fullest, for man was created so that he might reflect God’s image. (Gen. 1:26)
Whenever humans fail to display God’s admirable qualities in their life, they bring harm to themselves and to others. But the person who heeds the Scriptures will be happy.
    see James 1:25.
The goal of all of God's people should be is to pursue holiness as far as it is possible for imperfect humans to do.
This is what is pleasing to God.

"" if indeed he is living up to the standards that God has set """

    Jesus related these to us...

    IS the pope doing this...?
    Matthew 28; 19,20?
Is he preaching the KINGDOM? Matthew 24;14
Is he doing it like Jesus did...?
    Acts 5.42 & 20;20???

Is he staying clear of politics?
Is he using God's NAME? EXODUS 6;3
    And what about this...
    (Exodus 20:4-5) “You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth. 5 You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation, in the case of those who hate me;

HIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS BASED ON STATUES AND IMAGES...

Well the Roman Catholic Church ignores most of the Bible in their beliefs and therefore they have set the Pope up as some kind of a man-God.

    Jesus is God

Paul was pretty clear on this notion of a pope.1 Timothy 2:For the is one God and one mediator between God and man,the man Christ Jesus. No pope,no priest to take my sins to God.I can do that myself. Also Jesus said to call no man Father upon the earth, for there is but ONE father, your Father in heaven.Matthew 23:7-12

the christian church and the catholic church's popes have changed over time. some were married. one had a heart attack while sleeping with his mistress. in the late 19th century, feeling threats from the intellectual enlightenment and darwinism, the catholic church made the pope holy and infallible, so that his dictates would bring more of us to Jesus. great question! :)

Apparently, he is supposed to be the direct representative of God, and thus, be holy. The pope's position isn't even MENTIONED in the Bible, so technically it's a man-made position. And since man is full of sin, how can someone in said position be holy? Really, I haven't the foggiest.

What does one have to do with another anyway? Holy doesn't mean without sin ever. It means sacred. The Pope happens to be a symbol of the Holy Roman Church. He speaks for the church as if God himself were ruling in human form. Something like that. Stop focusing on the bad part of man and love and wonder at the spiritually good. Man is not to be judged and looked down upon, but to love and serve as your brother and sisters. God made us all and loves us ALL. If you don't then you are not in the presence of God.

The role of the Pope probably originated ceremoniously in the Old Testament, where there were different levels of people involved with the worship of God. The Pope is like the High Priest, which was the only mortal permitted in the Temple. The priests are like the Levites, whos duties are to conduct worship services. The High Priest and the Levites were granted special priveleges and duties from God, this is what makes them "Holy."

This is the problem with organized religions. They all tend to be political and power hungry once got into the hands of human beings.

Religion and God should be free from all these. It should be free and open and traverse through minds freely. When Human beings start setting rules and control people, it will go berserk.

This is what is happening to christianity, Islam etc today.

That is a great question. You are right, no pope is holy, they are just men and are sinful like the rest of us. Only Jesus is free of sin.
