• If you think nukes would be needed to take out any army from more than sixty years ago, you are so wrong. It would be a cakewalk. There are no kingdoms since then that would be any challenge, and the only empire that would have counted was the Soviet Russian empire. And nobody would have won an all out nuclear war.

• True, but when I asked this question I was asking in a hypothetical if all the armies were on an equal basis. Of course the empires or armies with nuclear will be able to obliterate any other forceknown to man to smithereens. And an all out nuclear would result in a tie being that the majority of the people would have been annihilated.

• Understood, Sub-Zero. To an extent, though, you can't compare on an equal footing as the training for different weaponry doesn't compare. The successful armies of history tended to be so because of their technological or numerical superiority. So the hordes of Mongolia might well come out on top through sheer numbers. Because I like the idea of "The Art of War", though, I'll plump for the Chinese strategy winning the day.
