  • Safely?? Serious, if you're actually thinking of BASE jumping, learn to skydive first. Start talking to the BASE jumpers on your dropzone (there's likely one or two), and try to find someone who will teach you what you need to know, they won't even consider it unless you're a decent skydiver first. The quick answer is about 200 feet, but only then if you're a real psycho, and quite experienced. EDIT- Bobbinhood, no. The first time my instructor let me go I did a 720 turn on my left foot! It's a really bad idea to BASE jump without being able to skydive with some degree of skill first, you would have no idea how to control the fall if things start to go wrong. Like spinning when you don't mean to. To BASE without being a decent skydiver first? I'd give you 50/ 50 to survive the first jump. I'd recommend about 200 to 250 jumps before trying it, by that time you'll have a far better idea about your own skill level, you might go for it sooner, maybe later. The legal BASE sites have restrictions, but they vary from 100 to 500, depending where you go, and the prerequisites change all the time. Good luck, and above all, HAVE FUN!
