  • My personal favorites are: 1. Bahia Honda Key, Florida 2. Great Smokey Mountains Nat'l Park, North Carolina 3. Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina. I'm not sure whether or not the park rangers still do this or not, however, they use to come onto the beach at night in pirate regallia and tell stories around a campfire on the beach. 4. Acadia National Park, and various private campgrounds on Mt. Desert Island in Maine. Bass Harbor Campground is nice if you want to be away from all the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, and is within walking distance of the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. 5. Assateague State and National Park - the wild ponies and other wildlife are amazing, and you camp within walking distance of the ocean. 6. The 1000 Island region of New York.......many many campgrounds, situated in many cases right along the bank of Lake Ontario. The campground I am trying next is Long Point State Park near the city of Watertown, NY. It was listed as one of the top 100 places to stay in 2005. 7. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
