  • I found that most people create their own bad luck through superstitions by focusing too much on their own fears. People are great about scaring themselves to the point of paranoia. No I never have thrown salt over my shoulder but I have witnessed many do this very thing and it makes me giggle a bit to myself.
  • I don't really like superstitions and more generally superstitious people. My father, for example, will knock on wood if he says that something he wouldn't like might happen. He'll also do the salt thing, and make a cross sign on his chest when leaving the house (which might be considered religious, but is still superstitious to me). The only thing I try to avoid is walking under a ladder. I just don't feel comfortable doing it, and I don't really know why. I also feel bad when I break a mirror. For all the rest, I don't really care.
  • I don't fear many superstitions- but the whole deal with salt over the left shoulder makes some sense. It doesn't have to be over your left shoulder- salt in general repels unpure things.
