At one point, I spelled "grey" with an "e," but now I find that I type "gray" with an "a."

Depends on what connotations I want to associate with what I'm writing. I'll use an "e" if it's English (with an english accent) or upscale, but I'll use an "a" if I want to sound more down to earth or American.
-
Totally random between them both.

i've ALWAYS wondered that. i spell it with an a...gray. just because its easier to type :P
-
I like it better with an e, it just looks right to me. But the e makes it the mood, right? With an a its the color. I think thats how it works :)
-
I spell it either way. This is America and I have a choice! lol. Since "text messaging" started, I think spelling has dropped, somewhat, on the priority list.
-
I've always spelled it as "Gray" because that was the way it was spelled on Crayola crayons.
-
Americans spell it with a an A, and the rest of the world spell it with an E.
-
I usually spell it "grey".
