Just type in what you want to know - it's quite forgiving and will offer you alternatives if you make a mistake, but it's usually very accurate. I've used it for all sorts of things - have to say I swear by it, godammit!! lol

Honestly my best advice is to only use it for general searches. I actually use my own for general searches (sorry, not meant as shameless plug but it's true.) The most useful search engine for more specific searches for me is Clusty. I've found it really impressive and versatile. It can really help you narrow down the results.

Quotation marks, but only if you're looking for a very specific thing. For example if you're looking for nude pictures of the wolf from little red Riding hood. a search for- nude pictures of wolf from little red ridding hood would result in a bunch of stuff about nudity, little red ridding hood, & wolves. But if you did a search for "nude pictures of wolf from little red ridding hood" it would bring up only links with that exact wording. =)
