You are doing exactly what you should. Find out if your college has a radio station. If not, find out if any colleges nearby do. Some of them allow amatures to fill in during summer months (actual on air time). You don't get paid for it, but it's great on air experience and some of them don't care that much if you mess up on air. Some do though, speak with the station manager. I and a very good friend did this. I found I wasn't cut out for talking to a microphone. He was very good at it, and became music director for several different stations in New England and Colorado. Now he is back in New England. He has done very well for himself.
