Well, there are three Movements in Buddhism that I know of m(Hinayana,Mahayana,Vajrayana), though none fit easily into East-West classification. I have to assume then that you mean Buddhism as it is practiced in the West (Like America, Britain, ect) as opposed to Asia. Western Buddhism is typically thought of as "Pop" Buddhism - though that is rather derogatory. It is generally assumed though that Western Buddhists are less 'serious' - they may incorporate some of the practices into their lifestyle (like meditation) but most often to help them cope with their lifestyle rather than change it. The evidence of this is the idea held by many part-time buddhists in the west that Buddhism is about "Self Improvement". Many Eastern buddhists place much more emphasis on the 7-fold Path described and of adapting their lifestyle to purposefully enact that - thus diminishing their own ego, or Self Dissolution.
