A woman paying for a night out would just feel wrong ( yep I know I'm old fashioned :-p ), A gift is nice, but you can't beat a good home cooked meal :-)

Women paying for the meals would make me feel awkward, but getting a great meal cooked for me would be great and mean a lot
-
Probably cooking me a nice meal. I don't know, it just says something. It's a lot of work and planning to do all of that.
-
Definitely a nice cooked meal means INFINITELY more than a paid evening out.
-
Meal, definitely. Spending money doesn't really impress me as much as someone putting thought and effort into something special just for me. :)

To me, the main attraction is the opportunity to spend quality time with my s/o. Time is more important than the gift. That leages the evening out or the home-cooked meal. I'd prefer the meal, even if mediocre, because of the greater time to be together privaely, without the incredibly distracting noise I find on an "evening out".

I always apreciate it when a woman takes the time to cook for me, much more than if she paid for dinner. Even better and more intimate is taking the time to cook a nice meal together.

Does it mean as much as you think? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it's not meaningful. Neither does it mean that guys don't appreciate it. And of course the generalized disclaimer: everyone is different. Which do I prefer? That's though. I personally don't mind cooking, and most of the ladies I court really don't enjoy cooking. Either that, or they're bad at it. For me, an evening out is quite meaningful. It's thoughtful and pleasant, and I don't have to wrack my brain as for what to do.
