Why do schools seem to think that sending a child to a man/woman for 50 minutes a week is going to somehow get that child to become a better student or clean up his/her act?

What man/woman would a school be sending a child to for 50 minutes a week? Some sort of behavioral counselor?

From personal experience, sometimes that's all it takes. More often though, it takes more than that. And nearly every time they send a child to someone it is to see if the child has been abused in some way. It is a most excellent way to keep children safe.
