  • your natural nails cant breathe. also fungus and nasty things can grow there. It would be ok to get them done for a prom or wedding, but not to keep them ,also if you have small children(still in dipares) this is a very bad idea because of what grows under there. i use to keep mine done when i was young, until i saw myself what can happen .
  • You nails feel thicker and it takes some time to get used to, so you can't use the edge of your nails to do stuff. Your nails also feel very inflexible and unnaturally hard, and you have to make sure they don't get whacked around too much or else they could chip or scratch. You natural nails can't breathe and are left thin, uneven, and brittle when you get the acrylics off. Probably worst, is you'll have to pay for fills every 2-3 weeks and eventually you'll have to get them completely redone when they get too long. It can end up costing a lot.
  • Hard to pop a pimple
  • I've seen women who look like they have a terrible time typing with them on,...
  • Acrylic nails are wonderful. The only disadvantage is that they are high maintenance. You have to remember that nails are like hair - its genetic. So if you have relatives with good hair the chances are you will have good hair. Ditto nails. So if you come from a family of weak nails you will have weak nails. Spend what you like on strengtheners, hand creams, rubber glovers, you will never have strong nails. Acrylic nails will neither weaken nor strengthen them. What you start with with acrylic treatment is what you end up with. The thing to remember with this route is to make sure you have proper salon application by proper NVQ-trained nail technicians who will make sure that the products applied are breathable and therefore not detrimental to your nails. I have never had good nails (I am not a nail biter) and have recently taken the plunge. Best move I ever made. I type extensively (no problems) and I have learned NOT to use my nails as tools which you shouldn't do anyway with natural nails. Keep them clean with a good nail brush and nothing nasty will grow - that is, after all, basic hygiene. Like so many things, go for quality - you pay extra for cutting corners ! Clients have been going to the salon I go to for 7-8 years and have never had problems. Hygiene at the point of application is crucial, so again check credentials. Nice nails do wonders for your confidence and makes you pay more attention to your hands. Go for it !!
  • You can get a fungus and that is not fun.
  • You cant do ANYTHING. Even fix a wedgie. Get sport length if youre getting them, theyre tolerable.
  • I've had fake nails for several years now. I've never had a problem (except if one breaks off now and then). I just have to get fills done every 2-3 weeks and they are good to go.
  • They LOOK fake; they're EXPENSIVE to maintain; you run the risk of a FUNGAL INFECTION; and they break at a drop of a hat! Not to mention all the time expended sitting around waiting in the salon, the fumes inhaled, and the money spent! If all of THAT doesn't discourage you, you deserve everything you GET from them!
