My s/o had a D&C and a laproscopic exam today. They discovered one very large and several small fibroids. She's not had consultation with the Dr yet. Can fibroids really be treated successfully with hormones or do they usually need to be removed?

Has anyone had a D & C to treat fibroids. Did they also remove the fibroid? Did your symptoms come back?

The biggest one pretty much fills her uterus. The doctor said the pain was pretty much her uterus contracting to try to expel the mass. I say the pictures they took with the laproscope...you could see the veins attached to it. It's no wonder she had so much pain and bleeding. The others are much smaller.

Then she probably needs a hysterectomy if she isn't planning children. It's easiest and they won't come back. But there are other options.

No...we don't plan children...she couldn't anyway because she'd have to stop several meds that she must take. I've already had a partial hysterectomy myself. We like kids, but neither of us have ever wanted to be moms. We love being aunts, though.

Then a hysterectomy is probably the easiest way to go. Good luck with whatever you do. I wanted more kids so they saved mine. But mine were on my ovaries. I have one ovary and one tube and my uterus. Now, I wish I had let them yank it all out. lol
