I'm going to a black tie event soon and I have a dress that I think is appropriate but it's strapless. I understand I should wear something over it, but what's appropriate?

Maybe some sort of pretty shawl to go over your shoulders might work!

u could wear those like short jacket type things or a matching shawl

a cute cardigan or bolero. make sure that it's not the same color as your dress. you could even try a nice wrap.

Pashminas always work well :) and I think they look very elegant over strapless dresses.

They sell some very pretty evening jackets that do not detract from the dress. You could also wear a contrasting shawl or very lightweight pashmina.
