  • the goverment sold off all the licenses for the radio frequencies to private companies, mostly mobile phone and other communication companies. basically they stand to make a nice pile of cash out of it so they went ahead digital fits into a much narrower badwidth so they dont need to own as many licensed frequencies, one good thing is mobile phone bills should get cheaper and reception will be better.
  • FCC mandated. It supposedly will free up signals for emergency services and public service announcements. ref: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html
  • I don't know, but I don't want to have to buy a box or a new TV just to watch TV. Maybe I'll just stop watching.
