  • You can assume that her parents are opposed to their daughter dating a non-Mormon. If their beliefs are sufficiently strong then they will inject them in to many, if not all aspects of life. Their 16-year-old daughter's dating relationships are probably very significant to them and they are going to remain interested and engaged in their daughter's life. Rather than going behind their back and creating problems for yourself (and the daughter) in the future, you would probably gain the respect of the parents if you were mature enough to approach them and communicate your intent. It is a lot easier for parents of teens to feel comfortable when they feel that they have a clear understanding of and at least a minimal relationship with their children's friends.
  • If they are very devout to their faith then they are preparing their daughter to be married in the temple one day. Unless you have expressed an interest in the church and becoming a member expect them to not be happy with you being with her. In order for a Mormon to be married in the tempole it has to be another believing faithful Mormon and her dating you would put her parents plans of her being married in the temple in grave danger.
  • YES--it is wrong to go against her parents!!! (One of the MAIN problems of today's youth, is the lack of respect towards the parents!!!) Unfortunately, some people are too narrow-minded to look beyond things like race, religious beliefs, etc. However, in two more years you will reach the age of NON-PARENTAL consent. At this point in time, the decisions will be made by the two of you. In the meantime, respect the wishes of the parents and be "friends."
