I have been dying my hair with at home color for a few years. The color is kinda getting old. I am a medium auburn. How can I get to a nice medium brown with at home hair color? Do I need to bleach it?

My daughter does hair, and she said yes, bleach out the existing color prior to using a new color, or it wont be true. She suggested you try a color that is a shade or two darker than you are used to using, and said that chocolates are nice, rich shades.
