  • A labret is typically a barbell peircing that is done towards the bottom of your front gums and chin, so it looks like there is a hole in the middle of your chin with the barbell. A lip piercing is usually a ring that loops through your mouth and around your lip.
  • Labrets are lower lips, usually beneath the actual lip. All labrets are lips, not all lips are labrets. Personally, I will call it a lip piercing if it's on the cusps of the lips even it it's on the lower lip. To me, a labret indicate some space between the colored lip and the piercing. The opposite of a labret is a monroe or a medusa. Labrets are also a type of jewelry that's a bar with a fixed flat back, and a threaded ball on the other end. What the piercing is called doesn't change what you call the jewelry and vice versa. So you can have a labret with a ring or something else in it, or you can have a non-labret lip piercing with labret jewelry. But if you want to call them all lip piercings you will always be right.
