Some folks have an agenda that they are intent on pursuing, on pushing it, and this requires them to force it into unrelated conversations. Others are just really angry about the way things are in the world and they are just looking to vent.

If you see anything like that from me on answerbag, it is me trying to point out what you said, not actually trying to bring anything politcal into answerbag. I usually try to make my comments so outrageous that the political conversation stops.

I believe political views are entrenched in much of what we say or do... so if we're not "bringing those views into everything we say", then we are implicitly supporting the status quo by not speaking up about those things. Even if you keep your mouth shut, I believe, it's still saying something... perhaps just "I don't care" -- it's still says something. I do get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again (even if it's me who's saying it(!)) -- but I am also very tired of seeing the status quo exhalted the way it is by what is not said.

The general form of the phenomenon is what I call "being on rails" (like a train). When somebody is only interested in one topic, there's one of 2 reasons: either their identity is defined by their views (and spouting and re-spouting the view is a form of self-validation) or they're on a Mission: i.e. they genuinely have committed themselves to making a difference in a particular area, and realize that it means pounding away on the same nail over and over again -- even if doing so can be sort of obnoxious and boring to others. I imagine that Mother Theresa could get a little monotonous at time. But that's not to equate her with the typical bore who can't hear the actual question and has to constantly bend the track toward their favorite destination (such as yours truly! :-)

I try not to bring mine until someone else (usually on the other side) brings theirs. Then it's 'open season' on whackos.

I have the same peeve. As soon as they can, some people bring in Socialism or Communism or some other political agenda into their answers when I ask a totally unrelated question. Please people, keep politics out of non-political questions!
