I am a British citizen by descent, however I have never actually lived in the U.K. If I want to become a U.K. resident do I need to inform anyone or get permission or am I free to just settle?

This is a complicated question on which you *definitely* need legal advice. Where do you live now? What is your "British descent"? 100%? And can you prove it? Or just a British grandparent? The rules are complex, and in many cases designed to be prejudiced while avoiding the actual fact of it. Therefore their results can be arbitrary and unexpected. Get advice.

If you get a British passport you can legally move to and work in the UK. Usually if you have a parent or even a grandparent who was born somewhere in Britain you can apply for a passport. You just need the proper documentation and to go through the proper channels.

Its really simple just apply for a british passport, then onece u get that u are free to live and work in the UK without restriction. (British citizenship is just that is matters not if its by descent or not).
