What do you think might have happened if the united states hadn't declared war on Germany in 1917?

• With respect the above is absolute rubbish.
  Even American historians of any worth admit that american actions during ww1 were largely superflous their role if any was only one of propaganda( ie: germany was exhausted the allies Britain & france had blockaded Germany to stavation levels, industrally she was finished as a great armaments nation which of course was cruicial to her cont of the war. In stark contrast Britains war production of munitions was increasing year on year and manpower was being resupplied by the empire and domenion states , indians Anzacs, Canadians etc wheres as germany with very little empire had exhausted all hers.
  
  Haigs huge and ( at Last ) well planned offensive accross the entirewestern front was composed of 90% British and empire troops ,the AEF only 10% and of this 10% persching the American Cin C refused to fight in british lead units and refused to deploy to British munitions stateing that he would wait for his own artillery.
  It war was won already

• In addition Britain was far from in dedt and Japan was on the allied side anyway.
  Of course today the Americans love to bleat about having won two world wars, the truth is they played no part either economically or miltary to any real extent during world war one.
  World war two on the other hand was a different story, but one must remember that America had written off Britain during 1940 as a lost cause. following the report of their ammbassitor joe Kennedy.
  The played no part in the Battle of Britain.
  They played no part in the victory at Alamain
  They were defeated by Rommel in North Africa during their 1st action of the war by ( the same german army that had just been defeated by Montgomery)
  They did not crack the enigma code the polish and brits did at bletchley park
  They did not invent radar or the cavity magnetron without which the battle of Atlantic would have been lost.
  They did not invent the first computor
  All this was done By Britain
  They DID provide alot of money & Men.,

• as a result they made themselves at the expense of the british and the russians ( dont get me wrong the Brits are very grateful for all their financial support during these dark days)into a superpower which they were definatly not before the second world war, a superpower that lost the least men dead, no civilians killed. no bombs dropped on them and was able to make huge profits from the war and the interest they slapped on their allies after it.
  
  In short the second world war was the best thing that ever happemed to the Americans and all due to their former mother country Britain trying to do the right thing by Poland

• I should add that Ambassador Joe Kennedy was, like many prominent Americans, pro-German. Many Americans, particularly those of Irish Catholic orgin like the Kennedy's, would have preferred to see nazi Germany win. It is just as well that Roosevelt was pro Britain, and that Jack Kennedy didn't become president until 1960, or the US would have either remained neutral or joined Germany.

• Can you even IMAGINE anything worse than the history of the 20th century? Or that any of Europe's monarchs would have murdered scores of millions, or starved and tortured other millions? It never happened before!
