In captivity- death is normal when the female stops giving milk and the male stops breeding. That is when the owners figure they might as well eat them. Pets are such a small percentage that I am not saying anything about them.

the average life span is as long as the goat keeps giving something to its owners. After that they go behind the shed to go to greater pastures. :)
