Lots of school and the ability to think outside the box and the ability to argue until somebody gives up.

You need to be extremely logical and focus on the goal you are trying to reach..leave emotion out of it entirely. It would be great if you were ethical as well. The higher the degree of intelligence, the easier it should be to prepare a compelling case on behalf of your client. It takes dedication and hard work so be prepared to sacrifice a lot while you're getting your education.
