  • Let's see, if I wanted to "shave off" some information from my resume I would start with removing high school/college employment. Anything AFTER college or after 23/24 should be included on your resume. If you've worked at a job for less than 1 year, you should remove that as well in the interest of leaving more room to list your longer stints of employment.
  • See my comments to BeccaBaby's answer. That is a good answer! I added the information that you should not leave any time gaps. If you worked part time while in College or High School you should list that you did, but no detailsl other than things like "retail sales, fast food, etc. using the example above. Shows you were industious. Resumes need to be fairly short and to the point. No one is going to read much over one page.
  • You need to make several resumes for each of the different kinds of jobs you'll be applying for. Only put on jobs for the last ten years (if that applies to you) and highlight the ones relevant to that specific job. Then fill in the gaps in a separate area to show that you're a willing team player who can pitch in and learn along the way etc etc. Remember: always be positive; don't waffle; and do NOT lie. Embellishment's OK but if you say you're a rocket scientist when all you've ever done is gone a few circuits on The Eliminator, that will not go down well! Good luck!
