  • because it is in geosynchronous orbit with the earth. (meaning it spins with the earth, not around it)
  • It rotates at a speed relative to its orbit so that the same side is always showing. Interestingly (as soon as you hear that word from a physicist you know its not interesting), the moon used to rotate faster than it does, so the whole moon would have been seen (although there wasn't much around to see it) but it slowed down to the rotational speed it is at now, which is the ideal speed so it won't change anymore
  • It is due to a phenomenon known as tidal locking.
