  • I was a teenager when I first saw that video, and I was a little disturbed. It's got Jesus wearing a Santa cap crucifying himself, the band within a heart-shaped box, fetuses on trees, and a little girl in what looks like a KKK cap and robe. Trippy. (Although to be fair, I remember seeing a video in high-school Spanish class showing some Latino country having a festival, and they wore similar attire, but that was unrelated to the Klan.) After I read the Kurt Cobain biography "Heavier than Heaven," I understood the video a little more. Kurt was interested in life, death, and especially birth. That's why there's so many baby references in Nirvana's album and video art. I still find it disturbing, but I'm not as impressionable as I was when I was a teen. These days if I come across it I'll probably just say, "What the hell am I doing watching music videos?"
  • I was 17 at the time that video came out and i thought Heart Shaped Box was a kinda weak song. I thought the video was pretty strange, and quite dark, but then again all of the acts (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden etc) were releasing pretty arty and dark videos. My perception of the video has changed. I recently saw it again and i think it is brillant. I really like the lyrics and i can now see that the song is about Courtney and Frances. Courtney is a cancer. Frances is baby breath. It is a fantastic video. I especially love the poppies :)
  • KNOW ONLY THAT THERE WERE TWO VERSION AT THAT TIME the second showing kurt laying among smoke and poppies with closed eyes: i was 15 when i saw the first blue box version and it was right normal. But then after his death seeing the second it just fills me up to the body.
