    Also- The Roman Republic was the base country where Italy is now, without the lands they conconquered, like France, British isles, north africa and more. The Roman Empire included the base country and all the lands they conquered.

    The Republic was just that, a republic, a country ruled by a body of elected officials. Specifically, the Roman Republic was ruled by the Senate. The Empire was ruled by a series of unelected Emperors who had greater authority than the Senate.
