Unfortunately, too many cats are picking up modern business cliches and thinking outside the box.
I usr maxx scoopable clumping cat litter, it works wonderful.
I had a cat for over 15 years and my experience was that she was the Queen of Everything, and the type of litter didn't matter. She was going to do what she was going to do.
Clumping litter is by far the easiest to maintain but clumping litter should never be used unless the cat is at least 6 months old. It can be fatal if a kitten injests it. Unscented litter is best. You should have one litter box for each cat and if your cat is going outside the box, it could be because it is being used by others. The formula is one litter box for each cat plus one but many people don't have the room for that. Cats are extremely clean animals and you need to keep the litter box clean at all times. Cats will go outside the box if there is something medically wrong with them. Often a UTI will cause them to go else where because it hurts when the go to the bathroom so they associate the litter box to pain. If it continues please take it to a vet.
Best cat litter is probably any non-clumping non-scented. The scents added to some litter may turn away some cats (they don't like some perfumey smells). Also if the go outside - you may have to get more than one box (maybe in other locations) especially if you have more than one cat. Also clean them more often. Some cats don't like to 'go' in another cats spot.
This is (not) totaly realistic but this is what I have been told.
Set up several litter boxes with different types of litter. Your cat will use the one s/he likes. But to be honest the problem might have nothing to do with what type of litter you use.
Sorry for the typo I meant it is NOT totally realistic.
Say what? Go outside the box?? Are you totally round the bend?! Who go outside the box nowadays?!
I can tell you the worst cat litter. Never buy Hartz cat litter, it is horrible. It doesn't clump well, makes a lot of dust, tracks all over and it cements urine to the bottom of the litter pan.
Never buy this brand.
If you are potty training a kitten it is essential that put your kitten in the litter box a few times. Put the litter box near the area the kitten is mostly likely to pee. Also make sure the box is in a good location- easy to get to.
Our kittens started using the litter box right away -- it's an enclosed type with stairs and a ventilation hole from Petsmart. Perhaps you should try that sort of litter box as opposed to changing the actual litter. We've had to correct them a few times, if one pees somewhere we make them sniff it and then put them in the litter box so they associate the two.
But no litter is going to jump out of the box and chase your cat around to stop it going in the wrong spot. Litter training takes time, and unfortunately there's always the risk your cat will have an accident or just decide she wants to pee in the corner.
so ive heard feline pine is the best but im not to sure i would try all the cat litters and see which is best but also mak sure your cat is comterable with the kind you choose to use ..
I do not know if it is the best but it is what works for my cats, they use TIDY CAT. it works well for me as well, some cat tend to go out side the box if it is not to their liking.........I have one of those kitties, we have to change the litter every other day. If in the event we do not my houseplants and dirty clothing basket wind up being fair game.
