  • Go and speak to the retailer from whom you bought the scratch card. Normally they will scratch off that area and input the code to make sure it is not a fake. By scratching it off yourself you may have invalidated it because you could use the code fraudulently. It is a call for your retailer to make. If they say 'no' then you have no legal basis to challenge them. The rules are stated (not always cleary) and part of your purchase is your agreement to abide by them.
  • If this is a Canadian Lottery card, there's no worry. It's a code that you can use to "cheat" with, if you know the code letters. You merely scratch that code and know, without playing the game if you've won and the ammount. Handy for those bingo or crossword type scratch and wins that may take 5 or 10 minutes and leave a huge mess. This does not invalidate the ticket here at all. Before they had scanning devices, retailers HAD to scratch off that code to see what you'd won.
