Sorry... It was Dr Pepper, the ONLY words from the Pledge on the cans were "One Nation ...Indivisible" (there WAS no "Pledge of Allegiance" written on the can). (See http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/undergod.asp )

Now, in case you didn't know it, when the original Pledge was written, it did not have the words, "under God" IN it. There were other words "missing" from the original, but these are the most controversial. They were finally added in 1954. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance )

And, one of the best loved, and most patriotic comedians from the US, Red Skelton, explained the whole thing. (see below)

Well, perhaps Pepsi wished to avoid expressing partisan views. It is a wise political move on Pepsi's part- a retail company must be careful to avoid cutting into its given demographic, or simply in removing one from its pool.

Awesome and about time! The pledge of allegiance originally did not have “god” in it. The god part was added during the cold war and truly does not belong. One of the things that make America great is the separation of church and state, let’s celebrate it and support Pepsi in their intelligent and patriotic movement!
