  • what sort of dangerous animals? snakes?
  • They are risk takers, adrenaline junkies and maybe have a skewed sense of safety. They wanted exotics, and to be unique. It like why do people buy guns? They tend to cause more harm than good.
  • To quote Tommy Lee Jones as Agent Kay in Men In Black: "People are stupid..."
  • they believe the 'it wont happen to me' line.
  • I have to agree with young1, it only happens to "other" people. That and they don't have any common sense.
  • Depends on what kind of animals. If you mean wildlife, it's stupid and selfish. If you mean snakes for example, some people feel that they actually make good pets. I had piranhas. They make wonderful pets as long as you care for them properly. I didn't buy them because I expected them to be vicious. They actually were quite placid compared to other fish I've had.
  • Whenever you ask people or watch interviews about people who own these dangerous animals, why they don't own a more conventional pet instead, they're response is usually because no one else has one. Compare 79 million pet dogs and cats in the US versus 10,000 "pet" lions, tigers and other wild cats. These are the kind of people who buy stuff to make themselves seem unique because they have nothing unique about themselves. To them standing out overrides their safety concerns.
