Yeah. Me. I'm 17 in a couple months. I only want a permit because everyone else has their license... but really, I don't even think i would drive a lot if I had one. The only thing that sucks is the longer you wait for a permit, the longer it will take to get a license, so when you do want to go out on your provisional or full drivers license, you'll have to keep the permit for however long the state says. You should probably think ahead of time, if you are like me, and wait to the last minute to do these kinds of things lol.

Waiting so long for you permit, is not the real question here, its are you driving without one? Studying for the written test and taking the actual driving test, is not difficult. you may have an emergency need to drive someone someday, and if you are stopped, you will be cited. Why wait?

Many people wait that long and much longer, especially in cities that have great public transportation. A friend of mine in NYC, at age 48 still doesn't have a license and doesn't intend to get one. One of my daughters waited until she was 20 because she didn't want the responsibility. I have other friends who didn't get licenses until thry moved from big cities to smaller places with fewer buses and no subways.

I hear ya. I'm eighteen, and no closer to getting my license than the day I turned sixteen. It's never been something I've felt particularly anxious to do. That may be blasphemy for male teenager to say, but between my bicycle and public transportation there's no where I can't get to. The only reason I even want my license is not so that I can drive, but so that I have a piece of reliable photo ID. In conclusion, it's not something worth worrying about it.

I'm 22 and I still don't have a permit/license. It's a personal choice. Partly because I'm terrified of being in control of a car. Partly because I live downtown and it's too expensive to own and operate a car here. With, car payments, gas, parking, maintenance, insurance, etc, I'd be broke, and I wouldn't need my car anyway, cause where would I go?! I use the public transportation or Metro, and I seem to be doing just fine, and saving LOTS of money. I might say it's uncommon, but it's not a major ordeal. If you think YOU have it bad, try being 22 and having to explain that you don't even have a license.

I waited untill right before I went to college! No lie, just didn't have a reason to get one. My friends all drove, I didn't have a car, I PREFERED my friends driving. It's not unusual.

Didn't get my licence until I was 27. Three months after that I got my trck driving licence, allowing me to drive 44-ton articulated rigs...

I was 17 when my brother left home to go to college; that's when I got mine. I just didn't need it until then.
