Help answer this question below.
Distilled water should have almost no trace minerals or other chemicals that tend to give other water its flavor, consequently a lot of people don't like the way it tastes.
Distilled water should all taste the same, whether it came from ocean water, lake, river, spring or well because the distillation process removes almost all the stuff that gives it taste.
It is typically as good for you as any other water unless you need the minerals... it won't have any of the reportedly beneficial stuff in it (like fluoride for your teeth), but lots of people don't want other people deciding what water additivies are good for them anyway.
I have not investigated the claims of distilled water "sucking minerals" out of you, but it does not sound right to me. Water you drink is absorbed almost molecule by molecule into the blood stream so any minerals dissolved before absorbtion of the water can be recovered (if incompletely) later in digestion. After incorporation into the blood it isn't "distilled water" any more and can't have that effect.
I read an article linked by another answer. It essentially lists two potential problems: loss of minerals and acidity.
1) I already indicated that distilled is not for people who need the minerals. If you drink only mineral-free beverages and have insufficient nutrition variety there appears to be evidence this could lead to depletion.
2) Unless agravated by other factors, I can't believe that drinking distilled water significantly changes your over-all body acidity. If you drink exclusively distilled water, and lots of it, this might contribute to overall higher acidity. Normal people with diverse diet probably need not be concerned.
You'll find a range of information about this on the internet, from distilled water will kill you, to it will improve your health and make you live longer. Since distilled water rarely occurs in nature, I would say, it should be avoided.
According to http://chetday.com/distilledwater.htm, it's not healthy for you because distilled water is an aggressive dissolver of minerals. It also absorbs CO2 from the air, which acidifies it. When it enters your body, it acts like a sponge, extracting minerals from your body that are then flushed down the toilet when you pee.
Having a glass of distilled water won't hurt you, but if you drink it often, it will have the same effects as hardcore coke or pepsi drinkers, these are also made with distilled water.
If you are going to drink "mineral leeching" beverages, then you should probably fortify your diet with mineral supplements.
For the skeptics out there... relationship between coca cola, soft drinks and osteoporosis (a mineral deficiency related disease): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola has many references.
Distilled water is regualr water that has been boiled and the steam is the result. yes distilled water is okay. i do not like the taste, because its still river water.
Spend a penny or two more and buy natural spring water. the taste is great and no comparison to tap or distilled water.
Drinking distilled water is good for you. I have been drinking distilled water for over a year and i am fine. There is a myth that distilled water can leach out minerals, but all it does is cleanse you from inorganic minerals. Alot of people with kidney problems are recommended this water by there doctors.
Drinking distilled water means you are drinking pure water. Our family has been drinking only distilled water for the last 2 years, its the best tasting water and the purest.. I have gained this knowledge from books and personal experience, however recent tests studys have shown that 8 glasses of tap water drank every day for a month has nowhere near as bad for you as 1 can of coke, so as long as your drinking 8 glasses of water a day of any kind, your doing your body a good deed
Distilled water is the purest water on Earth. Recent studies show that bottled water contains the same bad chemicals found in your tap water. Distilled water is made up of inorganic compounds that will not cause arthritis. I reversed my arthritis conditons by switching to distilled water several years ago. I have been drinking it for six years now with no side effects. The doctors are stumped! The issue of not getting the minerals is senseless. You get your minerals from the food you eat. You would need to drink some 6,000 glasses of water daily to get the normal required minerals from water.
Keep on drinking.
Distilled water is the best thing you can drink. Most body builders drink it because it doesn't add any extra chemicals or minerals. With distilled water you know exactly what you are getting.
distilled water can be drank because water(normal, bottled) contains non-organic minerals, but human needs organic mineralswhich can be found in living things(food, vegetables, etc...).
i agree....distilled water contains no minerals.....but, with a healthy diet, you get those minerals anyway......distilled water can make coffee and kool-aid or whatever drink you mix with water taste better.......as you have heard, you will not get fluoride in distilled water, which municipal treated water will contain......just eat some toothpaste...you will be fine...hahah.....take care....Brian......
Distilled water is processed in such a way that it is completely and totally water, which is fine for you and will do no harm. But it does get rid of things that are intentionally put in municipal systems intended for our health, such as flouride. So it's up to you to decide if it's better for you to drink a water that is void of everything or has stuff in it to keep it clean and help your teeth, etc. f
Anything is better than what comes out of the river.
Distilled is okay, but natural spring water from Canada is really hard to beat. it has no aftertaste and is truly great to drink.
Because I'm going to distill seawater out on my sailboat I intend to re-vitalize it by keeping it from contact with air, (by starting with a tube immersed in water in my filling container), re-oxygenate it with pure oxygen,(from electrolyzing seawater), mechanically aggitating it, add liquid magnesium and calcium from the health food store, re-ionize it with the positive side of my magnet, and expose it to my Grander water jug to re-naturalize it. Hope that works, as I've never heard of doing it before. We'll see.
I love all the answers here.
The body is a wonderful factory. Put in raw materials and it absorbs what it needs and does its best to excrete what it does not.
H2O is H2O whatever the source. Drink it distilled or from a safe tap and it will give your body what it needs.
Distilled water is not natural, therefore I find it questionable. Why avoid soda products in an attempt to be healthier and then drink one of it's main ingredients? Bottled water does not pose any kind of significant health risk, but distilled water has been processed to remove the natural occurring minerals. Doesn't a little red flag go up when you read so much much about avoiding processed foods and eating things raw (the way they were intended) and then you go out and buy processed water? Water is the most important part of your body, I'm just not willing to buy into this deal.
Tap water also has chloride to help your teeth.
I have had mild stomach problems for a long time. I am almost 40 and my problems started when I was 15. One of the strange things I remember from my youth was coming home from the dentist office on a few occasions feeling very sick and not being sure why (no, I didn't drink the flouride - though I did it swish it like I was supposed to). My stomach problems over the years have caused such a leaky gut issue that I have had difficulty getting into any real shape as my body doesn't handle nutrients or exercise well (I am a healthy weight and love sports - I just haven't been able to get into any real shape).
I have been drinking distilled water for the past month now and, guess what, the often burning stomach and the constant issues with allergies to this and allergies to that are gone. Additionally, instead of having a soft "achy" stomach all the time, now it feels healthy and solid.
I think it "boils" down to this. Some people seem to have a sensitivity to some of the flouride and other toxic chemicals that get put in water while many others don't.
So, for anyone having any kind of health issues, it can't hurt (check with your doctor to be sure) to go pure on the water, organic on the food, and eliminate all the toxic cleaners and sprays out of the house and out of your life that you can.
You might just wind up feeling really good.
Except that there are fewer minerals than "regular" water that could otherwise be beneficial, there is no health difference.
Mind you this is just a personal opinion, but I think with all the chemicals in the enviroment, where-as you have little to no hands on control about it. People should take a more hands on approach with at-least their drinking water, health reasons included. So, with that said, I'm pro for distill water drinking. I do believe that fruits and veggies are the way to go for the minerals needed.

yes, absolutely. it's the only thing i drink.
I'm a nuclear engineer and my wife is a dentist, we agree with the following answer, but first a side note from us (flouride given to children at the dentist office isn't for swallowing, you aren't supposed to swallow flouride, the flouridation of drinking water was started by the Nuclear energy lobbiests to cover the energy companies dumping of flouride waste) ""Distilled water *IS* natural! Distilled water is made by collecting water vapor from boiling liquid water. What do you think clouds and fog are made of? Ans: water vapor - RAIN is the condensation of (distilled) water vapor. Can't get much more natural than that! ""
