I don't think there is a set time on how long you should wait to propose, no matter the age. If it's right, it's right. For some people it takes longer to get to know someone and to feel comfortable with moving to the next step. For others it's a lot quicker. Who cares what other people think...no matter what they'll either be saying "Oh my god, they're getting engaged way too soon!" or "Oh my god, they're just now getting engaged...haven't they've been dating for 10 years?" Just make yourselves happy and don't pay attention to any timelines.

I've known people to propose in as little as 3 weeks. The time doesn't matter near as much as knowing what you want, how much you're willing to compromise to get it, and ascertaining the same of your potential S.O. Us older people I think tend to know what we're after and have a better chance of making a better decision in less time. The playahs, psycho-manipulators, and those desperate also have increased their skills at their false fronts. Yes, you can make proposals earlier potentially with more accuracy...no doubt...but you're also playing a higher stakes gamble.

I agree, that when you're both older and know yourself and what you want(as much as we ever do, regardless of age!) then what's the hold up? If I *had* to put a time on it... within 12 months.

I met my future husband when I was 51. He is 21 years younger than me. He proposed after a month. I thought he was crazy! I did not even think he would even consider me as a wife because of the age difference. Anyway, we did marry and we are amazingly happy. Hope this helps. ;D
