Can you legally change your name for any reason? How can you legally change your last name? I'm not referring to marriage or divorce; is it possible to legally change your last name because you hate it? What do you have to do??

Yeah you can legally change your name I did, its about $650 give or take (( IF YOU PAY A LAWYER)) I know its way less if you do it yourself becuase you are only paying Court fees, its easy paperwork, to get a lawyer would be to pay someone alot of money to do your math homework, seriously, I worked for a name change Attorney and it was the biggest "fast money making scam".....

OR if you are not a citizen and you are becoming one, the goverment gives you the option of changing your name for free, which I did.....yay!! smart move :o)

There are legal fees involved, since a judge has to authorize a name change. I would consult an attorney or your local legal aid society.

Check with an attorney in your state, or you might check it out online. Some states allow you to do the paperwork yourself, some states, like mine, require you have an attorney do it. There will prolly be some court costs involved.

  • I saw a web site where you can legally change your name for $40.00. I think that's cheap. I'm sorry that I don't have the website, but I'll find it and post a comment! :)

Yes you can. Many artists have changed their names, and not only for the stage, but also in real life.

anythings possable if your pay for it. Nothings free. But what are you trying to hid? I dont understand why people would want to change there idenity unless there are trying to hid something.

I just hate having an ugly name. It isn't "me." I want an elegant, classy name.

you have to file with the court to change your name. It is your right to be legally called whatever you want to be called.

I legally changed my name by deed poll and I did it for free. I downloaded the correctly worded form from the internet and got it witnessed by a friend over the age of 18. This is fine in the UK but not sure about the laws in any other country. The form was accepted by everyone to enable me to change my passport and drivers license as well as National Insurance details etc etc. All very easy and like I said FREE. this is the link to just one site you can get the form, it's not the one I used but I can't recall where I got it as it was over 5 years ago. http://freedeedpoll.co.uk/ Oh, and I forgot to say, you do NOT have to have it registered in the UK for it to be legal.

    G'day Suona,

    Thank you for your question.

Yes you can. It depends on the laws in your jurisdiction. I would contact the registry of births, deaths and marriages in your state or country and see what their requirements are.

    Regards

What I meant to say is that I always felt like I got the "wrong" name... lioness that is how I feel. I couldn't have said it better.

I've never been in trouble or anything like that.
I just want a Spanish name because I love latin stuff and I would feel less inadequate about not having a husband. Every time I say "Ms. Jones is my name" it's tantamount to saying "I'm 29 and never married." If I had a Spanish sounding last name it would make me feel more like a woman because if I HAD married I would have just taken my husband's name.

I hate my last name, because I never could identify with it. It's not "me." I love latin stuff, and I always dreamed that my future husband would be hispanic or latino... but I never got married.

I want a name that I identify with, an identity, and I want to feel like a woman (it's humiliating to be 29 and no husband). I hate my last name because it sounds trashy. I want something classy and elegant.

My last name is just ugly. I've hated it ever since I was a child. One of my relatives was from Spain and I've always loved the Spanish language and would love to have a beautiful Spanish last name.

In California you can change your name without any fuss or muss. You simply start using the new name on your legal documents, driver's license, or whatever, and it's yours.

yup..u can change your name by filing a petition in court, state your reasons, everyone has the rights to change their name mostly those individuals who felt uncomfortable when they are called by someone using his or her true name.if you feel your name sounds ugly or bad for you,the court will surely grant your petition.promise...

Out West the atmosphere is much nicer I think :)
I live in North Carolina and it's a "cold" place :(

    Thanks though
