Clove oil. Use it like oragel, and just put it on your teeth. It has a numbing effect. And ibuprofen.

Oral-gel is cheap and easy and works within thirty seconds! get it fast.

if you can't get to a store: have him suck on ice chips, hold ice packs to the outside of his cheeks.

    take some advil/asprin, any painrelievers

and remind him they are gonna be out soon - he'll have to bear it a little longer.

if none of this helps, he can call the nearest medical place (like Kaiser) and talk to a nurse or whatever - they can usually suggest some good things.

You could also encourage him to rinse his mouth with salt and hot water to keep any infections away.If he gets infected they will postpond the date of the removal.

Unfortunately, nothing but really strong pain killers will help, and even these will not completely dull the pain. I went through the same thing a few years ago. I remember trying absolutely everything, it would get so painful I would chew in door knobs.

I hope your friend gets in for the surgery as soon as possible. I had to have all four of mine surgically removed - it was a huge relief when they were out.

Poor thing, i remember how it is. If you go to a pharmacy the should be able to give you some numbiing cream. Its an antiseptic so that will help reduce some of the swelling and prevent infection. But most importantly should dull the pain make it a bit more barable... Thoughts with him :)
