Yes . . . in the last big real estate depreciation in the early '90's, I requested one from my lender and they accomodated me. I had already had to file bankruptcy on credit cards; my car wasn't worth enough for them to take, and they weren't allowed to take my house nor put a lien against it. Can't remember why not but might have been because of lack of equity . . . had a homestead on it which required they leave me 50k at the time. I'm still in the house but it's still difficult as I've never made the right amount of money to live here. Someone helped me qualify 24 years ago and I've been struggling ever since.
