Is it correct to collectively refer to both dwarf planets and classical planets as “planets”?

I'd just call them their names. Most people wouldn't say "Hey, remember that dwarf planet Pluto?". Unless you're writing some sort of essay etc that needed to be correct, then call them a dwarf planet. Also, it doesn't make sense, because nobody would call say Mars a "classical planet". It's just a planet

No, it is not. There is a very specific and profound difference between the two classes of bodies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_Planet).

If i were you, I would just call them dwarf & classic planets. Some people might get annoyed.
