  • Gimp is powerful, but complex. It has a pretty steep learning curve. However, it's no worse than Photoshop, and can do many of the essential things Photoshop is used for. On the other hand it is free, so you have nothing to lose! Just be patient with it, give yourself time to learn it. If you just want to crop, sharpen, resize, brighten, etc., there are much simpler programs that do that, both shareware/freeware and that come with your computer, such as Microsoft Image Editor (maybe part of Office--not sure) or Apple's iPhoto.
  • I have photoshop cs2 but I also have a free program called picasa. It does quite a bit of editing and also can make web albums which you can share or keep unlisted. very easy to use.
  • I use PaintShopPro... I've still got along way to go but it works great I use Audacity... maybe I should look at Gimp
  • I use Paint Shop Pro (v7) and it pretty well does everything I need without incurring the huge costs of PhotoShop. Having said that, I've never used Gimp, so can't help you there.
  • In Windows, Photoshop is great. In Linux, GIMP is great.
