MM says "revved of like a deuce" (refers to a 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe) I beilive the song is about springsteens earlier career and his life in general. thats just what i think though.

The contested lyric, in the original, was "cut loose like a deuce," referring to the fact that low cards are often discarded in draw poker. Manfred Mann's lyric was "wrecked up like a douche," which doesn't make much sense at all, but then if Manfred Mann had been thinking about the lyrics, he wouldn't have made such a huge mistake. And it was a mistake; when an interviewer asked him why he changed the lyric, it turned out that he wasn't aware that he had changed anything.

If you're thinking about the meaning of the whole song, that's more a subject for a lit class paper than for Answerbag. But I doubt that the change of this one lyric has much effect on the overall meaning of the song.

It's almost certainly a drug song. The title and key lyrics allude to a contemporaneous urban myth about kids who got high on LSD and stared into the sun until it burned their retinas out.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band changed the line to "Revved up like a deuce..." I don't think that altered the song's overall meaning that much, nor did the other lyrical changes. It's just about being high.

    History:

"Blinded by the Light" was the first song on, and first single from Bruce Springsteen's 1973 debut album Greetings from Asbury Park N.J. the band's version was unsuccessful and did not appear on the music charts.

    Lyrics:

The Earth Band's recording of the song features several changed lyrics. The most prominent change is in the chorus, where Springsteen's "cut loose like a deuce" is replaced with "revved up like a deuce."

This is commonly misheard as "wrapped up like a douche." Springsteen himself has joked about the controversy, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a "feminine hygiene product" that it became popular.

(As per Wikipedia which is excellent.)
