George Lazenby quit the role of Bond right before the premiere of his only film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), citing he would get other acting roles, and that his Bond contract, which was one and a half pages thick, was too demanding on him .
According to an interview I read, George Lazenby said he was receiving "bad advice" and that Bond would not last into the 70's. He has since recanted, and wanted another chance to play the role. The closest he came was in a TV movie "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Years Later Affair" where he played "JB" complete with somewhat of a beat-up Aston-Martin.
Read that Wiki entry given previously and it would appear that not only did he alientate the director but also the bond girl...in 67 he was supposed to be the highest paid male model in the world...all this indicates the guy was full of it.
No wonder he never made another...
It had something to do with his contract and leaving to do martial arts films with Raymond Chow and Bruce Lee. He was suppose to do seven Bond films and four films with Bruce Lee including "Game of Death". When Lee died, Lazenby still did the martial arts films in Hong Kong, but without Bruce Lee they no longer had international appeal.
