True Sikhs would I'm sure. I noticed that somebody mentioned negative first impressions. Well, if somebody is so small-minded that they would dislike a man for wearing a turban, then they really ought to go and get a life.

Also, and this might violate tradition, some relax that standard when they are in the US to avoid negative first impressions. My friend Dal gave up his beard and turban after several months in the US because it was having a negative impact to his career and the lives of his wife, who is Scottish, and their son. Note: Dal is English of Indian descent.

If they are to follow the religion as it was meant to be then yes they should. However due to personal reasons some choose not to. My father worked as a post man over 40 years ago in an area and a job where there weren't many sikhs. He encountered a lot of rasicm due to the fact that he wore a turban, but my father never gave in and in the end he earned a great deal of respect from the people he knew and worked with.

beito help u on the spiritual path, if u dont want to, then that is ur choice.ng a sikh means to be a learner (the meaning of the word sikh).

not just any learner, learning from ur guru.

when guru sez no meat, no cut hair, no intoxicants, etc, if u dont practise this how can u say that u are learning anything? there is no point to knowing information that u dont act on. u may as well have not known it.

hence, may as well not call urself sikh.

restrictions are there to help u on ur path. if u dont want to, then u cant call urself sikh cus u aint learning anything!.

practise slowly what is asked of u, then if u on this path, u are a sikh.

re-evaluate where u stand all the time. a person can never have a static personality when all that governs personality is dynamic and changing always.
