No, I don't think so. Many small businesses are doing very well in my area. They have merchandise and services that the big chains don't offer. And folks in my town have a sense of loyalty. They patronize the local shops a lot. You don't have to let your small downtown die. It takes planning and diversification. Our little downtown has become very attractive.
