You're reading My brakes make alot of noise, so I figure I need new brake pads. Can I go to a mechanic and say that I need new brake pads or a new brake system?

NEVER do a "pad slap".. always have the rotors turned or replaced!! A legitimate shop will never just replace pads. They cannot warrantee and it is dangerous and could wear out your pads unevenly and quickly.

a "pad slap" isn't bad. when i used to do my own brakes, i NEVER had a problem if i didn't turn the rotors--it depends on how worn down the pads are when u replace them.

Your life, and the lives of others depend on your brakes. A half assed brake job is a danger to us all.
