Help answer this question below.

My brakes make alot of noise, so I figure I need new brake pads. Can I go to a mechanic and say that I need new brake pads or a new brake system?

    pads. i just tell them to take a look at the brakes esp if i've been hearing any grinding noises (sometimes im lazy and let it go too long) so they need to check the rotors also. a new brake system would be a huge overhaul on ur car, but mostly when you say i need new brakes, they'll know what u mean.

    If they are squealing many times the pads are worn off and you are stopping with bare metal on the rotors. The pistons over extend and now you have a $1,000 brake job with junk parts. I would get fancy drilled and slotted rotors, plated with ceramic pads and find a good private mechanic to put them on. For less money you will have the best brakes that will last for years.

    The brake stores sell junk and you will be back to pay for the labor on your warrantied brake pads.
