  • You can do one of three things, conceal the dark circles, get rid of them for good, or lessen their appearance. This answer includes other suggestions that are not "home remedies", but I included them anyway. CAUSE: Dark rings around the eyes are a common problem. Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin found anywhere in the body. Consequently, the skin is relatively transparent. The darkness relates to circulating blood in the soft tissues beneath the skin. Some people believe it is actually pigment (melanin), however there has never been any definite proof of this claim. Chronic irritation, illness, poor nutrition, fatigue and many other conditions can accentuate these rings (from http://www.webmd.com) CONCEAL: When covering undereye circles, keep three things in mind: color, consistency and technique. Too light a concealer will exaggerate the problem, making the area look as if something was covered up. Choose a shade that is no more than one or two shades lighter than your skin color, and always avoid white. For those with darker skin, choose yellow-based concealers (try Physician's Formula brand concealer available at drugstores), which will counteract the blue in dark circles. Try mixing a bit of face lotion and concealer in the palm of your hand. Gently tap the mixture on the area under the inner eye only and lightly blend with your finger or a concealer brush. GET RID OF or LESSEN APPEARANCE: Research suggests that vitamin K, which has been used to diminish the appearance of bruises, can help to fade undereye circles. Try eating foods rich in vitamin K or using a topical vitamin K cream on the affected area (many options at drugstores). Adequate rest, good nutrition, and overall good health tends to make the circles less noticeable. If you have been ill/are ill, they will likely go away once your illness has passed.
  • I'm impressed andersen. There is one thing I wanted to add, cause it worked for me. For light-skinned people (not tanned, though I'm not 100% sure) putting cucumber slices on your eyes will turn the skin around your eyes white. Cucumber, strawberries & salt all have bleaching propreties. (I only actually recommend using cucumbers, because strawberries irritate skin & salt...eh).
  • I'm not a doctor but I have done alot of reading over the years and dark circles usually mean, that there is something going wrong in the stomach or liver area. I'm not trying to scare you but perhaps you should have a doctor check you out. Peace
  • Dark circles are a problem for some women, unfortunatly there is no cure. However my mother stood firm on using lemon juice raw straight from the lemon to lighten the whole face. If you use it around the eye area, use extreme caution as the juice will make you feel like your eyes are on fire. You can always use a good concealer to lessen the noticeablity of them. And yes sometimes if they are extremely dark it might indicate a medical problem.
  • Although a good concealer would help, it would also be wise to get more sleep if a busy lifestyle or what not deprives you of precious beauty sleep. Also, you might want to check for this pattern within your family because it can also be inherited.
  • more sleep i would say
  • As gerrik said, more sleep and drinking lots of water to flush out the toxins, in the meantime using a light-reflecting concealer in a shade lighter than your skin colour will disguise them. (Men can use this too!)
  • Eye creams
  • I don't know about removing them because I have some subtle ones myself. Some Mary Kay lady had some yellowish looking concealer a few years back that supposedly works wonders. I don't wear make up so I just live with the imperfections of my skin, it's all about character when you are over 40 like me.
  • Vitamin E. You can get creams you put on before you go to bet, which prevent. And you can get ones you put on when you wake up. All of these contain Vitamin E.

  • I have this problem too - no matter how much sleep I get. I can tell you something that works for me, but I can't for the life of me explain WHY it works, it just may be worth a try - eat quinoa. A few years ago I discovered quinoa when I was on a weird diet phase and started eating a lot of it - my dark circles seemed to disapear - I put this down to the whole diet and coincidence at the time, and after a while they came back. Then not long ago I got some quinoa again and started eating it as part of my normal diet, and lo and behold the circles disapeared again. I now try and eat it at least a couple of times a week and that seems to keep them at bay - if I miss a week they come back - god knows what's happening but there we go. I have tried to find out why this might help - possibly it's because quinoa is high in iron, and iron deficiency can cause dark circles (although I eat plenty of other iron rich foods so I'm not convinced), possibly it's something to do with reducing wheat consumption by replacing things like pasta or cous cous with quinoa - I don't know, I'm just telling you you may as well give it a go.

  • The best way to do this is: Get some sleep will be the best trick. Get lots of hydration - make sure you are drinking at a minumum 8 - 10 glasses of water a day. The other good trick is if you like tea, after they have cooled apply them to your eyes. This feels good and hydrates. You can also try a cucumber slice.
