A wedge is a piece of metal that hangs off the stern of the boat underwater to create more drag and a bigger wake. Some wedges are automatic and can be raised or lowered by flipping a switch on the dash, others require someone to reach down and release the wedge by hand. This is a good option if you want a bigger wake because it is easy to use, and works instantly as opposed to waiting for a ballast system to fill. However, like anything that makes your wake bigger, it will also make the bow ride higher (not great for the driver's visibility) and lower your fuel economy.
