  • America is my home. It is where I grew up. It is where my children live, and my grandchildren. It is what I fought for, and what I would again fight for. America is what you make her. She is not politicians, nor commentators, nor protestors. She is the farmer, the shopkeeper, the call-center operator ... all the little people who make the country run. She is young boys and girls volunteering to risk life and limb in a foreign land because they want to be a better citizen, or because they love their freedom, or because they want to be the first in their family to get a college education. She is row after row of white crosses and stars of David marching to the horizon. She is that for which they died. She is us.
  • Like all countries, there are good ones and not so good ones. I like America because it is a land of chance. They give you many chances that you cannot find elsewhere. There are hardly any limits. Many Americans are intelligent, hardworking, and ambitious. What I don't like America is that people don't know anything about self-constrain or self-discipline, because they were not taught when they were young. Many of them (especially the younger generation) don’t know it is a shame to just take and not giving. No one seems to believe it is a shame to take advantage of other people’s kindness. My experience with most young Americans is that if you give them an inch, they would move forward a foot – they don’t know it’s time to return the favor. They don’t appreciate what you have done for them. They are still aiming for what they haven’t got from you, and keep pushing you to give them what they want. If you keep giving them, they think you’re a fool and laugh at you. If you refuse to give more, they hate you, and they show it! That is soooooo disgraceful. This country does not appreciate “decent” persons. Americans don’t care about what type of people they grow up into, they only care about what they can get from others. I am losing confidence with the future of this country – how can its younger generation grow up to be the one we can trust, with great power in hand but not abusing it? Migrants told me that since kindergarten, American children were only praised, and never criticized. No one correct them when they make mistakes. Many of them grow up not knowing what the right things to do. They get very hostile if you tell them they are wrong. They are good at pointing out your fault, but never look at their own mistakes. Many Americans are very aggressive. They also tent to cover up for their own people. Be nice to some and you will get screwed. In this country, residents have learned not to appeal to be too trusty or too nice, for that is an invitation to the greedy ones. With not enough rules and regulations, residents are not protected. Life is not SAVE here. With many Americans so unbelievably self-centered and rude, frustration and irritation are part of life. But don't get me wrong. Every time when I was annoyed by a super self-centered American, I met a super nice and mature American who told me that he/she is also disappointed and ashamed by those people. That explain why America is still going strong. I just worry about its future. By the way, I am an Australian immigrant. I was "looking at" America from Australian point of view - one only gets respected if he/she behaves. Doing the right thing, being a decent person is more important than material possessions. Basically, a person who is not “decent” loses all respect in the society. I think you are open-minded, as you really want to know about the world. I think you will contribute to a bright future of America.

  • I am from the UK. Now - I make a seperation here between America and Americans! I don't like America. To name a few reasons - I think it is a bully. I think it butts in where it is neither wanted nor needed. I think it is incredibly hypocritical. I think its focus upon what it is to be 'American' and the insistence on pledging allegance is potentially dangerous. I think it also makes the world a more dangerous place for all of us in the West since we get tarred with the same brush. It has a disgusting poverty ratio within its own borders which should be addressed. It has a shocking mess of incredibly violent crime within its borders and a highly ineffective prison system which focuses more on punishment than correction, despite what it claims. It does not look after its own people. I think it should stop the abuses of human rights which occur under its own leadership (G'Bay, violations of IHL in war) before it dare preach to anybody else. I think its past record in terms of joining the rest of the world in trying to combat climate change and increase conservation is incredibly poor, and no matter what we do it is impossible for the rest of the countries of the world who WANT to change it to actually do so unless the US and China step up...it is hopefully making progress here under Obama. It is a land of paradox in that on one level it is incredibly self-absorbed and self-obsessed. Yet on another level it can't help but interfere with other countries and not always for the best. There are VERY good sides to America though - because for all its faults it DOES do good for the world. It does give aid, it does give humanitarian assistance, it does do what it can to protect individuals abroad. It creates some very intelligent people. I just wish that it would do more of these good things, and less of the bad.
  • K first things first, I'm in Germany, But, I'm a military Brat from the USA, Freshmen. K-personal opinion- America and its people, for years and years- in my view- are spoiled whiny children: the world to me is like a dysfunctional family, Asia is Daddy, Europe is Mommy, Africa is the child who gets the least attention, Oceania is the uncle, and America is the spoiled kid who craves attention. Take a look back on history, whats the main reason that America fought England? Taxes you say? Wrong, America brought it upon itself to tar the British Officials and complained about not getting a say in what England chose for its laws, and again, America wasn't its own country, it was colonized land, FROM ENGLAND, who paid for their voyage? ENGLAND, who gave them weapons & food, ENGLAND! Who fought for them in the French Indian War, ENGLAND!! America would not be here if it wasn't for England. Next the only reason we get into wars is because our Presidents like the attention! We don't have to fight, but the American people love to start drama, its in their blood. And from what im hearing, people are hating on Obama right now because he refuses to do anything about Iran, Well, America should mind its own business for once, look at Japan, they got nuked cuz they didn't mind their own business, and now they're so terrified that they're doing the smart thing, staying out of the fight. And if ppl think we'd be better off with Mcain? Wrong, we'd be in a war with North Korea, worse yet, a nuclear war due to their recent discovery. Second, America is based on a Christian controlled government- note on Gay marriage & Abortion laws. First, dudes shouldn't get a say in the abortion one, they don't have vaginas, second, women who are against abortion, fine, don't get an abortion, but don't tell another woman what they should do with thier unborn baby. Gay marriage, again! If your not gay then don't worry about it, if your a Christian who's against it and your using the bible as an excuse? Well I hate to break it to you, but America has muslims, bhudists, hindus, jews, and other religions too, and in comparrison, Christianity is only 1/3 of the population. Second, homeless ppl, why should i give them my money so they can go buy boos, when they could actually get a job, it wont be decent, but at least their off the streets. Again its all personal opinions
  • Personal opinion! Every American knows the good or bad of America. And i agree like all countries, there are good ones, not so good, bad guys! And inside the America, there are some comparatively advanced system and also some not-really-good system that i dont want to praise or condemn. Now we say America, we talk about the international image.America is more like the king of modern world, with the flag of human right and democracy raised in hand, voices wherever necessary and intervenes in almost every issue on earth, but actually just cares for it's own(&his it's allies-looks like jackals of the same lair?)benefits and wants to control/rule over everything of the world. America does something good to the world, only because it's good for himself,America does something bad to the world, for it'f benefit for himself. One word,America does not seems to care anyone else.(Though he says he cares)I don't understand, why,to benifit itself,he create and intensify the conflict, making trouble. He 'makes' war to make money. Their flag of'human right and democracy' is ready to become a torch to ignite any war anytime, and can change to gun and kill millions of citicials and not even wink his eyes. It's like if America want to beat your dog, he can easily find the stick--he got that flagpole on hand! Their Media were believed to be free, objective and impartial but it's not,for ulterior motive,it's full of lies and distortion to the fact. So all shows that America is a hypocrite.'double-faced colossus',I am so disappointed to the America!
  • I believe America is good country with some issues. I think other people see us as greedy and wasteful. We do waste alot. We still have issue of race, healthcare, education, and morality. I believe we should have equal opportunity to get a piece of the American Pie.
  • i agree that there is a huge difference between Americans and America; I hate, hate hate American foreign policy, but the people, for the most part, are O.K. I live in the north east of America, and everyone there is liberal and open-minded and I like them a lot...but when I go on youtube and see cruel responses from people who are Americans that are racist, bigoted, and ignorant, I feel angered (though I know not all Americans are like that). American foreign policy is horrible; Congress rejects the Goldstone report even thought the congressmen have not read the pages of it-but then again, congress is not really that effective at making competent decisions, invaded Iraq for NO REASON, provides support for Israel with weapons and money since it has screwed up its relationship with everyone else in the Area, destroyed the Iranian democracy in 1953-before these terrorist organizations were even formed- since Iran nationalized its oil industry and America loved oil more than human rights, refuses to join the War Crime courts, etc. Domestic policy is iffy. Not much is done to treat the actual problems in America; unemployment is high, yet Obama (though I supported him a lot for the election) is more focused on health care, which is important, but money spending should be reduced, the debt should not be increased. Education in America is better than education in many other parts of the world, but only because the other parts do not want to foster education since fostering education could mean fostering views you don't like which could lead to the leader losing power (a.k.a. education elsewhere is limited due to censorship). Still, the national IQ-even with so many immigrants from nations with higher IQ's like China, India, japan, etc.-is lower than that of many other developed countries, including the UK which actually has more immigration than America. I am an American, born and raised in America, but my parents are immigrants from Syria (well known for its censorship and human rights abuse) and Turkey. I would call America more of a tossed salad than a melting pot since people here are so xenophobic and forget that they were originally immigrants. American foreign policy sucks (I don't remember the last time it actually accomplished something), education is much better off than in other countries though some people do not value it much, and domestic policy is ok but lacks focus a lot of the time. America is hypocritical in a lot of ways; it waves the banner of democracy but feels no guilt in toppling democracies which could hurt its interest. I mean, it supportd SUDDAM HUSSEIN gas and use bioweapons against the Kurds in Iraq and Iranians(who were prohibited by their leader from retaliating with these weapons), supported OSAMA BIN LADEN in Afghanistan when Russia invaded, and really don't care about human rights if it affects them. I like the American people I know, but the country is quite hypocritical and its image has tarnished. The media is screwed up too; CNN gave stated one day that a thirteen year old gunman was shot down by Israel. Interesting, because this same thirteen year old had just been going to school and a journalist who has received awards in Sweden and the US witnessed Israel shooting down the unarmed boy. When the journalist (mohammed omar for the washington report) called CNN and told them this, they said that the guy in charge's wife was from Israel, so he just had to deal with it... While I don't say Abu Ghraib accounts for all soldiers, the act further tarnished America's image...perhaps this is why many nations hate America. The idea of America is cool and the people in general are nice to know, but unfortunately, it has become a mere shell of what it was meant to represent and does not represent freedom at all...
  • I like a lot of things about America, most of them are mentioned before, and I'll like to make it short (that's why it's cut out). What I don't like about the Americans is, that lots of them are very shallow.. It's sometimes like they only have two moods: the treacly happy mood - and the treacly sad mood, where they are crying and crying and showing it to the rest of the world, among others, in the Tv shows. And they are all trying really desperately to be deep and their constant trying only makes it worse. I like that they are easy to talk to, but it's also like you can't tell the differents whether you've known them for years or for days... :( Europeans on the other hand, are not that outgoing, but in return they turn out to become (often) closer friends and what I'd call REAL friends. Some Americans kind of overestimate themselves all the time. That's annoying. I don't like much of their policy either, but I won't touch on that now.. Besides that I like the country and a lot of its people :)
  • By the way, am from Denmark (:
